Monday May 2nd:
First stop, Kauzen Brau:
Gotta like the owl logo
Eder dropping some wisdom as usual
They treated us to lunch and some beers, then it was on to the next stop. Haus Kölscher Brautradition is the biggest producer of Kölsch in the world!
This is the point where we realized why all our Kölsch in the US is garbage
Straight from a barrel...well actually it is lined so there is no contact with wood.
My first TRUE Kölsch! It was significantly better than anything produced back in the states.
In Cologne, we were on our way to dinner and we get off the subway to see the beautiful Cathedral! Dinner at Früh was great and we had more fresh Kölsch. The service for these beers is interesting. They are served in small .2 liter glasses, but they keep bringing them to you until you say stop or put your coaster on your glass. They mark how many glasses you had on your coaster. Our waiter was actually uncharacteristically quite terrible, so we did not have many glasses.
Just now realizing that if I do the entire study tour in one post, it would be brutal and no one would read the whole thing. So I will just post each day on its own and space them out a bit. To put things in real time perspective, Emilia has arrived and we have begun our adventure. We are in Berlin now, but will be traveling to Amsterdam tomorrow morning, however you will have to wait for all the details. I believe we will have internet on the train, so maybe will get a few more posts up then.
I want MORE!!! Nothing like serve until you tap out. Wish they did that with Supplication....
