Beautiful view during breakfast
First stop, Het Anker
They are the producers of Gouden Carolus products, including their single malt whiskey
We went all the way up to the roof where they still have this old coolship, however they do not use it anymore
The view was great as well. They were in the middle of a brew so you can see some steam on the right of the picture
The majority of the building was filled with barrels. These are all filled with their whiskey.
More barrels. I like barrels.
As usual we get a nice lunch with a sampling through their beer portfolio. Impressed by their whiskey infused Indulgence (not pictured)
Next stop, St Feuillien!
Old school brewery
New school brewery. Yes that is a huge mash press in the background. Very surprised how common this technology is in many of the older breweries that have recently modernized. Might have to do with getting over 100% extract efficiency (yes over...its a long story)
Me and the brewmaster. He lead the whole tour and was willing to answer questions very frankly.
Time to try all their beers. I had had many before, but great having them at the source and trying some beers we cannot get in the states.
Eder Candy Crushing!
Then we headed to our destination for the night, Liège. Our hotel was right on the Meuse River.
We looked up some places to go and found some hot spots for the local specialty, Boules. On the walk we were turned away by a rude waiter and saw this place.
We found a backup plan and the Boules were delicious. After we went next door a got 3 euro pours of Gueuze Tilquin before calling it a night.
